Russian bears pounce in the bushes

  • With the recent victory over Maurice and his Brunswickers, the coalition were on the retreat again, desperately trying to bridge a river to aid their escape, L'Cul recognised his chance to lead a flanking attack along a forest track......surely there would be opposition their !!!

Unfortunately Chestikov and his Russian boys were all lurking in the trees.....

Barry had 18 points of ambushing Russians to stop the 24 points of French marching along the road to flank the Prussian/Brunswick forces.

L'Cul fielded two light cavalry units, 4 skirmisher units and a large unit of line. Whilst the canny russians fielded a large line unit and three good shooting jaegers in the woods.

The russians had the best of it wiping out the French cavalry in short order whilst their line troops manouverd into a perfect ambush position, however the French voltigeurs managed to hold the Russians at bay. In true coalition style Barry rolled some appalling moral checks which cost him several turns of shooting . L'Cul himself managed to hover about with his line troops once again proving more of a hindrance than providing anything positive.....clearly he was taking up a more suitable command position in a nearby Inn.

Just as the French column was within striking distance of the table edge and securing the flank March the Russians retreated on mass......5his was no tactical brilliance......Barry managed to roll a double one and Chestikov retreated off the board. However Chestikov managed to secure 4 honour through the sheer casualties inflicted......despite this clear overwhelming victory L'Cul didn't receive any honour.....too much brandy ribbed him of his faculties.

Another fun game, Barry honing his skills and army list further...these Russian jaegers could prove to be a menace.
