The Legendary "Battle Of The Dropped Box" aka Non Grimdark Repaint Plan

  • Being the wonderfully co-ordinated meat Popsicle that I am, I decided to bring an alternative army down Friday that wasn't the Mirthless Orks.

And then dropped the box on the table, incorrectly by about 5 degrees, turned - and the whole box smooshed onto the floor.

This is part of the Chaos Slaanesh/Emporers Children derivative force - I built from my OTT Chaos Army Collection - The other half Is a Chaos Khorne/World Eater Derivative.

They were all repainted/built in my late 20s early 30s - and were used until I stopped playing 8th.

24 Models of various units survived unscathed.

28 models required a single item to be reglued

23 models had 2 or more items to reglue/pin.

    Which got me thinking - that's almost 1/3rd 1/3rd 1/3rd

How do I mark up the survivors? The newly healed? And the seriously wounded?

    THE 'UNDEFEATED'

    THE 'HEALED'

THE 'RUINED' - I gave up at this point after reattaching all heads. I couldn't leave my troops headless. Armless yes, but headless no.

I asked the girlfriend who was painting pictures how I could possibly mark up these 3 groups...

And she chucked some acrylic metallic marker pens at me.

So I did this to one shoulder pad, and then a whole bifurcated side colour.

Shiney and lush was the result.

Whilst I will be cracking back open the mega-scenery project - these will be the first victims of my sonic cleaner in the new work area.

Zenithal, and highlights in metallic inks (pink vs purple again) - orange weapons.

20 years on almost I want to see how quick and well I can redo them. I even know how to thin paints :P

But how to note the 3 groups? Pink/Purple for the "UNDEFEATED" - Orange First/Arm for the "HEALED" - Orange Leg/foot for the 'RUINED'?

They'll still go back into original 'squads' but this will add a little more variety.

Then there's the matter of some Jump pack orcs, some goblin artillery, and two blood bowl teams. But hey that's a post for another day...

  • Been too knackered to pop down,

    But..

With some messing around with a silver drybrush, some pearlescent paint, and some thin washes - 27(?) minis made a lot shinier. then decided to squeeze a stash of Blood Bowl Orks for practise.

Actual painting fun. And thin paints cause me a lot less stress

Left is the older paint job - stupid amounts of stress with tiny brushes. very flat. Right is the new paint job (it's redder in photo than IRL?) which was minutes per colour.

Orcs kind of flew out. Next the humes.. I don't even know the team names.
