    OPR Patch Notes

"For our main battle games, we are changing the Shaken rule to be more forgiving, and give players some extra choice. In this new version, Shaken units are still able to act normally, but they get -1 to Quality and Defense rolls, halve their movement, and can't seize objective markers. Units may choose to spend their activation idle in order to stop being Shaken, but don't have to."

"For our skirmish games, we are changing Wound Checks and Rout Tests, again to make the game more forgiving, but also slightly less deadly. In this new version, units are not Stunned anymore, but are Shaken instead, with Shaken working as described above. This also means that when units fail a Rout test, they are Shaken instead of Stunned, and are only Routed if they were already Shaken.

This change has a bigger impact on the skirmish games, as it means multiple things. Since units are now Shaken instead of Stunned, you can't auto-kill them by charging them or hitting them with a shooting attack, so the game is a little less deadly. It also means that units that are charged in melee and take wounds will actually get to strike back (if they are not Knocked Out), which makes the game more balanced.

Note that since Shaken is now less painful than before, the cost of morale and morale-related rules has been changed, so many units across the board are now slightly cheaper."

There's some small language changes to make other things clearer too..

I do like the fact they've taken years to do such small updates. Rather than outright change.

    or  ?

    They're here..

Made my smile this morning after being unable to move after a long week on the road.

Just a few bits to mount and dress from the bits box and will be done. First project in new house this week, assembling the room tomorrow, (Pain willing)

Haha.. Dragon Rampant Orc proxies still work for me. Fighting 3 models proved very challenging.

Not going to forget Ian's bemused face due to the asthetics :)

Need to get my head around Courage and Wound rolls.. more practise. Not rolling 4 ups for 50% of 12 dice, and rerolling lower Command rerolls was a fun adventure!

The random roll for actions definitely tickles a good spot.

I've got some Hordes minis somewhere that would thematically suit Dragon Rampant more. I need to look into traits a little more.

With OPR - I cannot commend ian highly enough for tactical consistency with medic AOE & artillery. He also had some massive dice rolls

Conscript meat shields need dealing with. Good choice.

Trying something different with my Orcs - there was a plan to seize the points - yet again the Orc Leader didn't perform. Though they did hit an unholy number of ranged shots - Ian's troops shrugged them all off.

Being remote bombed before acting definitely hurts performance.

    Adapt and thrive.

    Git gud.

A little light reading with the radio on - can't hang the shelves as planned as the 'ol back pain is playing up again.

This OPR setup Kind of reminds me of Blood Bowl leagues - over time if they survive there's a lot of perks and quirks

There's also the addition of random events every round.

Will need a roster per player, and a sheet of results.

Doesn't seem that much.. and I can always keep a log.

All the traits and random events definitely add flavour, and I suspect some character/model attachment.

    Anyone interested??

There was an interestingly named board game being played - but again I forgot to picture - so via Board Game Geek here's - how did it go? Maybe they need a bigger boat?

What was the second game? My mind's gone blank

We had one painter, one conversational interloper..

And another random Grimdark Firefight game. "Alpha Legion" Vs "Mirthless Orks"

In this game the line "Crit Happens" was definitely valid.

A Goblin Champ was used to add some cheap "Waaagh" (aka War Cry aka speed boost" functionality. But failed to do anything else after standing in the corner of the battlefield staring at his gear.

Said champ was stupid enough to deploy in the open - and 'somehow' survived a direct unmissable shot. The Gretchin hordes ran across the field, one group downing a marine in the first round.

The next turn the Ambushers arrived - the marines assaulting and slaughtering a Sniper Ork Commando on his first ever mission, however the dice decided it would continue to be impossible to make any defensive rolls, and then rolled high on the wound roll - instant death.

The was also absoutely some VERY VERY high shooting rolls from all the Orks and Gretchins - Alpha Legion went from holding 3 of 5 objectives, to having only one man standing.

After knocking down another ineffective and toothless Ork the valiant last Legionary took 9 shots, and laughed it off.

It could have been a win for the Alpha legion less the crit fails, if could have been an annihilation victory for the Orcs, but the low pair rolls returned after a spate of 6s!?

More scenery is more good - more varied Ork lists to come - and maybe some tweaks to the Alpha Legion load out. For once Medic trait barely came into play.

Time to look at Campaign rules...

Being the wonderfully co-ordinated meat Popsicle that I am, I decided to bring an alternative army down Friday that wasn't the Mirthless Orks.

And then dropped the box on the table, incorrectly by about 5 degrees, turned - and the whole box smooshed onto the floor.

This is part of the Chaos Slaanesh/Emporers Children derivative force - I built from my OTT Chaos Army Collection - The other half Is a Chaos Khorne/World Eater Derivative.

They were all repainted/built in my late 20s early 30s - and were used until I stopped playing 8th.

24 Models of various units survived unscathed.

28 models required a single item to be reglued

23 models had 2 or more items to reglue/pin.

    Which got me thinking - that's almost 1/3rd 1/3rd 1/3rd

How do I mark up the survivors? The newly healed? And the seriously wounded?

    THE 'UNDEFEATED'

    THE 'HEALED'

THE 'RUINED' - I gave up at this point after reattaching all heads. I couldn't leave my troops headless. Armless yes, but headless no.

I asked the girlfriend who was painting pictures how I could possibly mark up these 3 groups...

And she chucked some acrylic metallic marker pens at me.

So I did this to one shoulder pad, and then a whole bifurcated side colour.

Shiney and lush was the result.

Whilst I will be cracking back open the mega-scenery project - these will be the first victims of my sonic cleaner in the new work area.

Zenithal, and highlights in metallic inks (pink vs purple again) - orange weapons.

20 years on almost I want to see how quick and well I can redo them. I even know how to thin paints :P

But how to note the 3 groups? Pink/Purple for the "UNDEFEATED" - Orange First/Arm for the "HEALED" - Orange Leg/foot for the 'RUINED'?

They'll still go back into original 'squads' but this will add a little more variety.

Then there's the matter of some Jump pack orcs, some goblin artillery, and two blood bowl teams. But hey that's a post for another day...

Not tried that yet - unpacking finally this month - so am rereading Dragon Rampant first.

EDIT: just found free PDF via Sally 4th - but really makes me think of the Crooked Dice model site..

Which has an Island Priest House - just released for example..

    Island-Priests-House-WEB-727x1024.jpg

Knowing that the Alpha Legion Marines were more powerful the Mirthless Orks brought some Jetpack Orcs (Proxy Gorka Ork used), The Boss assembled with a War Banner & War Cry, and a triple Gretchin Horde - with a pistol upgrade (4 shots for 3 Gretchin)

Each marines Regeneration & raw skill meant that hitting them wasn't hard, but hurting them was. And the dice gods shone on the marine saving rolls.

An ambush to the rear of marine lines swung back and forth - but no points were held

With a rumbling Waaagh the Gretchin took heavy losses, but sprinted across the battlefield to contest a second point while holding another.

For 3 jetpack Orcs, and 5 gretchin, eventually "No Teef No Glory" came true - 1 marine was finally taken out from 5 - Orks needed but failed to swamp marines to win.

'Alpharius' victorious - a last minute return contest of objectives - 1 held objective each, two contested - death count to the superior smaller team.

Next time this may become a campaign!
