For the fate of the Americas

  • With the Dutch cursing their luck that they fought forces commanded by Spanish Bob's 2iC Eduardo 'el rapido' rather than Spanish Bob themself. their loss in that battle effectively cut short their bid for control of the Americas and the Spanish under Spanish Bob - well enough said there it was left to the French and Scots to duke it out for control of the territories. Both had suffered some reversals but were now sitting ready to fight it out to control the colonies. Well Archie 'Freedom' Ferguson was. The Comte Del Monte. that favourite of the Bourbon court was content to view activity from the rear of the battlefield.

Both sides drew up on opposing sides of a small farmstead and a meadow, The Comte had been plying the local Kickapoo tribe with brandy and glass beads . It had done the trick and several war parties joined his forces whilst all Archie could manage was an aging field gun with a wonky wheel. Archie lamented his luck,

However on seeing it was the French on the opposite side of the field and following the Comte's fraternal greetings from across the field Archie was transported back to his youth and his time in the 'Auld Alliance'. It must have been that as he and his units seemed to freeze on the battlefield unable to take an aggressive step forward.

The Comte smiled to himself, took a sip of his brandy (he'd passed the poor quality stuff off on the Indians) and waved his forces into attack. Before Archie knew it things were all over. Outnumbered from the start and deceived his forces fell back from the field of battle leaving the Comte as the victor in the campaign for the colonies- once again a victory for him that didn't actually involve him getting within gunshot of the enemy.
