Like Friday, Sunday was another mix of board and miniature gaming, and painting.

Rik introduced Dave and I to Capital, the tile based game of Warsaw city building. Using the play one pass the rest method (think 7 Wonders) its a game with a few, simple rules but a lot of depth (thanks to several unique civic tiles in each round, an ever-present shortage of cash, limited play area and a premium placed on clever placement and orientation of tiles). Good fun, and hope to see this one again.

Rik and Dave followed this up with Holmes, Sherlock & Mycroft, a card based game pitting two players against one another to prove the guilt, or innonence, of a young labourer arrested near the scene of a bomb attack in London. How did this play guys?

Wayne and Craig fought another Samurai battle using the Test of Honour rules. Do we have any details on how the battle developed guys?

Manning the painting tables this evening were Rik, Will and Mike, who primarily entertained themselves by heckling everyone else. Or just me maybe?

We had a mix of all flavours of our hobbies on Friday.

Mike and Alan played some Dreadball. Not sure if this was a competitive match or a friendly but the room was certainly cheering on Mike. Except for Alan, of course, who cheered on himself.

Paul and Wayne represented boardgaming for the evening with a game of 1775.

Dave and Bryan fought out the latest battle in our Pikeman's Lament campaign (The Travails of '44). Bryan will have an after battle report up on the campaign board shortly.

Manning the painting tables were Rik and myself, and latterly Pete joined us too. Rik was working on his War Rig for Gaslands and I was finishing off a fourth unit of Zulus for The Men Who Would Be Kings.

    Day 8

We can manage Orcs and the living dead but can this group manage a decision?

In the end I had to just start walking along the river. Of course it was only a short while before I was ill thanks to the river. Fortunately the waters are rather calm so it wasn’t too bad.

I felt quite the fool when Jaipan pointed out that a path ran alongside but some distance from the river.

Still better to feel a fool than feel ill.

Away from the water this feels much like the camp I grew up in. Happy memories - at least until father disappeared.

I wonder if I’ll ever see him again. For that matter, we still have no idea where we are or how we got here - I wonder if I’ll ever make it back to the rest of my family again...

We can now add generated dice rolls to our posts using the 'Roll' tag (button is sixth from right, beside spoiler button)

Use the xdy method to identify your rolls, where:
    x=Number of dice
    y=Number of sides

    [html][roll]1d6[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 1d6 : 4, total 4[/blockquote]
    [html][roll]3d12[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 3d12 : 8, 3, 5, total 16[/blockquote]
If you have a modifier to your roll you can include it as below.
    [html][roll]1d10+2[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 1d10+2 : 4 + 2, total 6[/blockquote]
If you want the modifier to apply to the total rolled only:
    [html][roll]2d10+2[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 2d10+2 : 6, 1 + 2, total 9[/blockquote]
If you want the modifier to apply to each die rolled:
    [html][roll]1d10+2x2[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 1d10+2 : 5 + 2, total 7
    Rolled 1d10+2 : 8 + 2, total 10[/blockquote]
The modifier or purpose of the roll can be included by using curly brackets. This will replace the default 'Rolled' term:
    [html][roll]{Athletics}1d20+5[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Athletics 1d20+5 : 18 + 5, total 23[/blockquote]
    [html][roll]{To Hit}1d20+5{Damage}1d8+3[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]To Hit 1d20+5 : 7 + 5, total 12
    Damage 1d8+3 : 7 + 3, total 10[/blockquote]

So putting these elements together like:
My Monk has advantage and slashes with his longsword then follows up with an open handed punch
    [html][roll]{To Hit}1d20+5x2{Damage}1d8+3[/roll][/html]

    [html][roll]{To Hit}1d20+3x2{Damage}1d4+3[/roll][/html]

    Would result in:
My Monk has advantage and slashes with his longsword then follows up with an open handed punch
    [blockquote]To Hit 1d20+5 : 15 + 5, total 20

    To Hit 1d20+5 : 10 + 5, total 15
    Damage 1d8+3 : 4 + 3, total 7[/blockquote]
    [blockquote]To Hit 1d20+3 : 12 + 3, total 15

    To Hit 1d20+3 : 20 + 3, total 23
    Damage 1d4+3 : 3 + 3, total 6[/blockquote]

There are a couple of other features:

Reroll results that are not greater than or less than a certain value:
    Greater [html][roll]3d20^10[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 3d20^10 : 3 3 7 12, 3 9 1 20, 6 10 13, total 45[/blockquote]
    Lesser [html][roll]3d20v10[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 3d20v10 : 8, 9, 10 1, total 18[/blockquote]

Remove results that are not greater than or less than a certain value:
    Greater [html][roll]3d20>10[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 3d20>10 : 13, 2, 7, total 13[/blockquote]
    Lesser [html][roll]3d20<10[/roll][/html]
    [blockquote]Rolled 3d20<10 : 8, 20, 1, total 9[/blockquote]
Note that, although you can use preview to see your roll, the results will be recalculated when you actually post.

Given the deafening silence from the rest of the party Ash starts walking upstream, feeling a little queasy at being in proximity of the river.

    [blockquote]Constitution 1d20+2 : 5 + 2, total 7[/blockquote]

Earlier in the day Paul and I played 1775 and Twilight Struggle

Alex, Russ and Bryan played a myriad of different boardgames including the brightly coloured Agra.

A little later on Pete and Bryan tested out some light duelling mechanics for The Pikeman's Lament.

In the absence of the board gamers the tabletop gamers took over this Friday.

Mike and Darren played their Guild Ball league match, the game ending in a resounding win for Darren. Catch up on all the latest on the Guild Ball boards.

In the absence of some parliamentary opposition Wayne and Dave fought out a Pikeman's Lament battle for bragging rights. I believe this was a victory for Wayne's forces. Can anybody confirm?
See The Pikeman's Lament boards for all the latest in the campaign.

Rik, Ste and I represented the board gaming for the evening. Firstly Rik introduced us to Sagrada, a dice based puzzle game, where dice represent panes of stained glass that you place according to a randomly drawn template card, and you can't have two dice of the same colour or value adjacent to one another.
Fortunately dice are a lot easier to handle than shards of glass so my chubby fingers were no impediment, allowing me to take the win.

I was not so fortunate with Dwarf King where a dominant first turn pushed Rik into an unassailable lead despite Ste and my attempts to gang up on him.

Pete set up an introductory Pulp Alley skirmish game for Rik and Ste. It was a tightly contested affair but the last man standing turned out to be Rik. We play Pulp games in the midst of many of our campaigns to add a narrative element to them. And it's just good fun!
