Chosen Ground games

  • If you fancy it then we could switch from the AoA scenarios games, some of which are skewed to favour attacker or defender depending on scenario, to the Chosen Ground type game from Siege and Conquest.

    In this terrain is rolled for as per WAB rules and the attacker has their 1200pts and the defender takes up to 300 pts less (so 900pts minimum) as troops and spends from the 300pts on extra terrain

    which they can place as per points spent.

    Victory conditions are then as per WAB rules with results split into draws/ minor/ major to get 2/4/6 campaign points.

    We could have the active player as the attacker.

    It does mean a bit more planning before games for the inactive/defender player but at least each game would then be different and there'd be less likelihood of certain games always favouring one side or the other.

    e.g 12"x 12" on a flank - woods/broken ground/ hill @120pts

    12"x 12" not on a flank or in a deployment zone - woods/broken ground/ hill @100pts

    12" imp defences @100pts

    hill in own deployment zone @200pts

    We could start by trying these and add other more complicated things like rivers later.

    Also we could use the Weather Chart system from Siege and Conquest. For this both players roll a dice at start of game. Different scores = assume it's 'normal' weather. Same score add the Temperate Terrain points (+2) to the combined total rolled and read off the Weather Chart for effect.
